Lenten Vespers - The Cross & The Lynching Tree Discussion

FCC's Lenten Vespers Series will explore the book by James Cone, The Cross and the Lynching Tree. Each evening begins with a light meal, followed by prayer, devotions and conversation starting at 6:30 PM.

Over 4 weeks, this Vespers series will explore how James Cone reconciles the gospel message of liberation with the reality of black oppression and suffering during the lynching era.

Our Vespers leaders for this series:
Dr. Alexander Byrd: Professor Byrd is Associate Professor of History at Rice University. His area of expertise is Afro America, especially black life in the Atlantic world and the Jim Crow South. His study of transatlantic black migration, the period of the American Revolution is entitled Captives and Voyagers.

Dr. Michael Dunn: Michael Dunn serves as senior pastor with First Christian Church, a Disciples of Christ congregation in Houston, Texas. FCC is an open, welcoming and compassionate church family pursuing a joyful relationship with Jesus Christ. Pastor Dunn tweets under the hashtag #BeResurrection @dunnmichael.
