DISCIPLES WOMEN'S MINISTRY

Disciples Women’s Ministries (DWM) is a group of loving, caring women dedicated to encouraging women to faith in Jesus Christ and to providing opportunities for spiritual growth, education, creative ministries, and fellowship. Each Tuesday morning, all women are invited to come and discover how to show God’s love for our community and to draw closer to each other through service. Please see our schedule below.
Study and Worship
The study programs for 2009-10 are titled “I called... God answered... I am changed...” We study together to learn habits of praying, discerning God’s responses, and growing into creative service.
Service
DWM serves our church and community through donations and activities.
Donations. Besides giving to periodic needs, our funds support the outreach of our Disciples of Christ denomination and the work of our congregation’s Mission Council. FCC members’ generous support of our fund-raising allows DWM to represent our church and thus increases the impact of our congregation’s outreach.
Service Activities. On activities days we put our hands to work. Here are examples of our projects.
Recent Projects – In the past months we have made quilts, pillows, and other items for patients in Houston’s medical center hospitals; hats for CanCare; and handmade gifts and greetings for our congregation’s shut-ins.
Seafarers’ Christmas Boxes – DWM sponsors our congregation’s participation in this interdenominational ministry for the Port of Houston. Each holiday season DWM and FCC members fill shoe boxes with useful items, wrap the boxes as gifts, and deliver them to the Seafarers’ Center at the Port of Houston. The boxes are distributed to working seafarers far from home, to whom a box of small gifts like a disposable camera, writing materials, and chewing gum is a luxury.
Blanket Sunday – Blanket Sunday is part of a Church World Service program that provides blankets, tents, bedding, and other emergency supplies in the wake of natural disasters and human calamities around the world. Annually, DWM announces this vital ministry, and an offering is taken in the worship service.
Fund-raising – DWM sponsors two fund-raising events to enable our outreach: a bake sale in FCC’s Fall Festival and our annual Valentines Day event. When you support these efforts, your donations find a home in good works.
Fellowship
Our meetings conclude with the fun of a shared covered dish meal. From time to time, instead of meeting, we take a field trip to a local place of interest, followed by lunch in a nearby restaurant. These excursions enrich our knowledge of the city where we serve.
