Mission Council

First Christian Church members have organized a Mission Council to coordinate missions and outreach. We consider missions to be any way we can serve a church member in need, a stranger in our community, or a nation in the world. We initiate various missions and organize outreach opportunities on a local and global level. We partner with other local churches and groups such as HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, and work with local food banks, emergency relief, and help for the homeless. The Mission Council also works to be good stewards of God's creation by being a participating organization with Recycling Fundraiser (formerly EcoPhones) a recycling and fund raising program.

Hospitality Apartments - provides free temporary housing and a safe, welcome, comfortable, supportive environment for families in need (who live more than fifty miles away from the Texas Medical Center) who are receiving medical treatment at any of the medical care facilities in the Med Center area.

Week of Compassion - the Disciples of Christ relief and development organization.

Mission Houston - Whole and Healthy Children Initiative, partners with elementary schools to transform the lives of the students.

Blankets + - a relief arm of Church World Service.

Soles4Souls - in May 2009, FCC participated in our first Barefoot Sunday, supplying shoes to bare feet in the U.S. and around the world.

Cleaning for a Reason - If you or a woman you know is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment, there is a cleaning service that provides FREE housecleaning - 1 time per month for 4 months while in treatment. Cleaning for a Reason will have a participating maid service in the zip code area arrange for the service.
